Sinking funds: the reason December keeps surprising you
Christmas is not an emergency. Neither is your annual insurance premium.
An emergency fund is for the unforeseeable. A sinking fund is for the entirely foreseeable but irregular: gifts, insurance, tuition, the yearly trip home, new tyres.
The mechanic is simple: take the annual cost, divide by twelve, set that aside monthly. A ₱18,000 December becomes ₱1,500 a month instead of a January credit card balance.
Most budgets break not because of daily spending but because they only account for monthly costs. The irregular ones arrive anyway.
Set each one up as a goal in Tarsi with its real deadline. The monthly number it gives you is the honest cost of the thing.
